Will firms using facilities management in the north-east benefit from the HSE's new safety roadshow?

Business based in the north-east of England that are using facilities management as a way of improving their health and safety records could be among those interested in a forthcoming industry event.

The Heath and Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed that it is to hold a week-long safety tour of construction sites around the region later this month.

It follows the news that last year saw one death and more than 500 serious injuries caused on constructions sites across the north-east.

HSE inspector Rob Hirst commented: "Good health and safety doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Simple steps can make a big difference which is then reflected in reduced sickness days, a significantly lower risk of enforcement from HSE and better productivity.

"The White Van Roadshow will aim to raise awareness about the risks workers on construction sites face every day, to try and cut the number of deaths and injuries in the industry."

Businesses based in Middlesbrough, Newton Aycliffe and Sunderland will benefit from the safety event, which kicks off on Monday October 18th.
