Will firms using facilities management cost reduction processes be affected by dip in consumer confidence?

A number of businesses operating in the UK could be among those affected by a recent dip in consumer confidence.

The latest report by Nationwide has revealed that confidence among consumers is at its lowest point in more than a year.

Furthermore, the firm's Spending Index has fallen 14 point to its lowest recording since November 2008.

According to the British Chambers of Commerce, the dip can be somewhat attributed to a level of uncertainty ahead of forthcoming public sector spending cuts.

Richard Dodd, a spokesman for the organisation, also claimed the situation could become worse in the future.

"The current uncertainty about the detail and the extent of what the government is going to do is unnerving people more than the actual cuts will, once we know the details of them," he said.

"Equally of course there are a lot of people who will be directly affected that haven't yet been. Their confidence will be weakened as well as their ability to spend."
