Will businesses using facilities management be boosted by calls for red tape reduction?

October 5th 15:39 Cost Management

Business owners using facilities management as a form of cost reduction within their enterprise cold be among those boosted by new calls for a reduction of red tape.

The Forum of Private Business (FPB) has called on the coalition to introduce a simpler tax system and rid the UK of the "red tape burden" faced by the companies.

According to the organisation, the forthcoming Spending Review is an ideal opportunity for the coalition to highlight its intent to help the private sector grow.

Figures from the FPB show that UK businesses spend £12 billion a year on complying with bureaucracy.

Phil Orford, the forum's chief executive, commented: "Put simply, the UK's economy … should be run more like a small business, making the most out of the country's valuable resources and ensuring that all departments work together to create and promote a real culture of enterprise.

"Our members frequently complain of duplication, confusion caused by different public bodies and excessive bureaucracy. We have a rare chance to remove these barriers to business growth in this Comprehensive Spending Review. It should not be missed."

Chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne is set to unveil the Spending Review on October 20th.
