Facilities management could rise in popularity as 50,000 firms call for debt advice

A number of UK businesses could be encouraged to adopt facilities management cost reduction processes after one expert highlighted the difficulties faced over the last three years.

Joanna Elson, chief executive of the Money Advice Trust, said the last three years have been a "very difficult" time for small businesses in the UK.

The comments come as the charity revealed that 50,000 small businesses have called its Debtline for advice since the credit crunch started to take its grip.

Ms Elson said: "To have helped more than 50,000 businesses throughout the credit crunch is a huge achievement, and one we can be proud of.

"However, there are still many small companies seeking advice on how best to manage their debt - just last month alone Business Debtline advisers spoke to representatives of more than 2,200 businesses to help them through their financial worries."

The expert said that the help the Business Debtline offers small firms has been "crucial" in ensuring their survival and the well-being of creditors and the "broader financial health of the UK".
