Call for increased bank lending to boost firms using facilities management?

October 4th 15:59 Cost Management

Firms may have more finance to invest in facilities management should calls from first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond be heeded.

The Scottish National Party leader has urged the coalition government to take action in promoting bank lending to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

In an open letter to business secretary Vince Cable, he says that banks not only need to lend more, but offer a greater range and scope of products to businesses.

"The lack of lending from banks is having a severe impact on many viable businesses across Scotland," he writes.

"Our small and medium sized companies are the bedrock of the Scottish economy and employ around 1 million people right across the country. Their growth and future success are central to our economic prosperity."

Mr Salmond also says that he feels government spending cuts have been too deep and threaten to destabilise the UK's economic recovery.

It follows talks held between the first minister and Mr Cable in June.ADNFCR-2717-ID-800097194-ADNFCR
