September 1st 13:19 Cost Management

A number of small businesses in the UK could be tempted to adopt facilities management cost reduction processes after hearing that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is ramping up it attempts to claw back unpaid taxes.

Abbey Tax has claimed that HMRC has launched a new initiative dubbed "dash for cash" in a bid to help the government close its £158 billion public finances gap, ContractorUK reported.

The article suggests that HMRC is to ramp up the number of tax investigations it carries out on smaller businesses.

According to the report, the second and third quarter of this year will see a growing number of businesses subjected to a more aggressive regime.

David Marples, a group manager at Abbey Tax, told the news provider: "We expect the number of HMRC inquiries into small businesses to go on increasing over the coming months.

"The inspectors we have spoken to have told us they are being tasked to bring in as much money as possible, as quickly as possible."
