Will firms using facilities management be boosted as govt implements public's saving ideas?

September 13th 16:02 Cost Management

UK businesses using facilities management cost reduction processes could be among those encouraged to hear that the government has introduced new savings measures.

The plans are a welcome alternative to additional spending cuts and stem from public suggestions made on the coalition's Spending Challenge website.

Included in the measures is the reduction in the number of CRB checks that junior doctors are subjected to in the NHS.

National Insurance numbers will now also be sent out by letter only, meaning the cards that have previously been issued will now be abolished.

The government is also set top sell any surplus equipment it has in online auctions.

Chancellor George Osborne commented: "These are the people's ideas. Over 100,000 suggestions have been put to us and now we're starting to put some of them into practice.

"In doing so, we are directly tapping the experience of those working in the frontline of public services instead of assuming ministers in Whitehall have all the answers."
