Will firms turn to facilities management after expert says cuts will be felt for at least two years?

A number of UK businesses could be inspired to turn to facilities management cost reduction processes following the publication of recent report.

Stephen Overell, associate director of The Work Foundation, has claimed that the impact of the coalition's spending cuts will be felt until at least 2012.

"Well we are expecting the effect to be felt starting in late autumn, but actually, it will affect the next two years at least, probably beyond that," he said.

The comments echo another report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research, which claimed that businesses will be feeling the effect of the cuts from last 2010 until 2015.

Mr Overell also said that the north of England could be particularly affected by the cuts as many local firms rely on the public sector for work.

"When the cuts come through, these areas are likely to be the ones that are most affected. The private sector won't be able to absorb all the people made redundant in the public sector in the wake of the cuts," he added.
