Will firms seek facilities management cost reduction processes as economy 'cools' off?

September 3rd 13:29 Cost Management

A number of businesses in the UK could be tempted to adopt facilities management cost reduction processes to secure their profit margins following the comments of one expert.

Jonathan Loynes, chief European economist for Capital Economics, has claimed that the strong GDP growth recorded in the least three months cannot be sustained for the rest of the year.

The Office for National Statistics recently revealed that GDP increased by 1.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2010, 11.7 per cent higher than the growth in the same period last year.

However, Mr Loynes said it is unlikely to be repeated in the third and fourth quarters, saying the figure was "obviously … a complete one-off".

"The question of course is whether it will continue to expand at the pace we saw in the second quarter, and I think that's looking extremely unlikely," he said

"There are signs as well, I think, of the likelihood of the economy beginning to cool again, not least of course, because the international economy seems to be slowing again too."
