Will retail rise boost businesses using facilities management?

August 3rd 15:54 Cost Management

UK businesses using facilities management cost reduction processes could be among those encouraged by recent figures regarding the retail sector.

According to the latest report by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), retail sales improved year on year last month and exceeded industry expectations.

This could also come as good news for companies in other sectors after the Centre for Retail Research (CRR) highlighted the importance retail holds within the wider economy.

Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR, said the retail sector accounts for one-quarter of the UK's GDP.

"Retail has got a lot of stick in the last year or so. Perhaps it encourages people to shop, to spend money that they don't have," he said.

"But the other side of it is that it is a success story and it does show that as the retail industry is moving out of recession it is helping to create jobs, which [is] what we need."
