Will firms using facilities management welcome regulation recommendations?

August 9th 14:55 Cost Management

Businesses using facilities management as a way to keep costs down could be among those to be encouraged by recent recommendations regarding regulation.

The Regulation Policy Committee (PRPC) has called on the government to consider all the alternatives before pressing ahead with new business regulations.

It comes after business secretary Vince Cable announced that the coalition is set to adopt a one-in, one-out policy for new regulation from the start of next month.

Sir Don Curry, non-executive chair of the Better Regulation Executive, commented: "The RPC's findings show how important vigorous, independent scrutiny of new Whitehall rules can be. We have to ensure that if regulation is needed, it is designed and implemented in the best possible way.

"The introduction of the new one-in, one-out rule in September will need robust evidence, and the enhanced role of the RPC will be essential in driving forward the culture change in Whitehall and ensuring government departments meet these requirements."

Reliable estimates of the costs involved with bringing in new regulations would also be produced if the RPC's recommendations are followed.
