Will firms using facilities management heed fridge freezer advice?

A number of businesses operating in the UK's retail sector could be among those to benefit from recent advice issued regarding refrigeration.

Insurance firm RSA has urged small businesses to take precautions during the hot summer months in order to prevent fridges and freezers from malfunctioning.

According to the organisation, small businesses risk losing billions of pounds unless they ensure they have adequate back up solutions in the event of a power cut.

David Greaves, SME trading director at RSA, said: "Businesses need to take precautions, especially during the hot summer months to ensure they are maintaining all electrical equipment on their premises.

"If a fridge or freezer breaks down, they may have to throw away stock and then replace it all."

Figures from a recent report by the British Frozen Food Federation show that UK consumers spend £5 billion on frozen food each year, with caterers spending a further £2.5 billion.
