Will firms using facilities management benefit from tax reform calls?

August 23rd 14:15 Cost Management

Politicians should dedicate more of their time to focusing on tax reform than on public sector spending cuts, it has been suggested.

This could come as good news to a number of businesses using facilities management cost reduction processes in order to improve margins in the post-recession climate.

The Investment Management Association (IMA) has called on MPs not to let spending cuts affect their focus on improving the UK's tax regime, the Scotsman reported.

Dougie Ferrans, chairman of the association, told the newspaper: "Okay, let's have austerity and public spending cuts. However, at the same time we need to think through a viable long-term savings and investment regime. We shouldn't park that debate until the future."

The comments come as the newly-created Office of Tax Simplification carries out its review of the UK's small business tax environment.

Mr Ferrans added: "The reality is that to kick-start any rebuilding of the manufacturing economy on a meaningful scale there has to be a shift in both culture and appropriate incentives for investors."
