Will 'controversial' parking tax plans lead to increased use of facilities management?

August 24th 14:21 Cost Management

A number of UK businesses could be inspired to adopt facilities management cost reduction process as local authorities look to extend a "controversial" parking tax.

The Forum of Private Businesses (FPB) has stated that it is "deeply opposed" to plans to extend the workplace parking levy (WPL).

Last year, the WPL was introduced by a small number of councils and is now expected to see increased use around the country,

The FPB has likened the levy to a "stealth tax" and said its introduction will "provoke fury" among the UK's business owners.

FPB spokesman Chris Gorman said: "When the Nottingham WPL scheme was given the go-ahead last year, we said at the time that it would only be a matter of time before it spread to other towns and cities.

"In our view … it's simply a stealth tax which will have a disproportionate impact on small businesses. It's the equivalent of charging homeowners to park on their own driveways."
