Firms using facilities management could be among those to support pension reform

August 26th 14:48 Cost Management

Retail businesses operating in the UK and using facilities management cost reduction processes could be among those interested to hear that there is widespread support for pension auto-enrolment.

Recently-released figures from the government's Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have revealed that more than half of the country's businesses are in favour of the coalition's plans.

According to the figures, 56 per cent of businesses support the government's proposals to introduce auto-enrolment of pension schemes at UK firms.

Furthermore, 64 per cent of eligible individuals have backed the plans, the DWP claimed.

Lord Freud, DWP minister, said: "With only around half of employees saving into a workplace pension, our planned reforms are needed to prevent millions of Britons facing a penny-pinching retirement.

"It is encouraging that, despite the recession, the majority of employers are still in favour of pension savings."

According to the government, seven million UK workers are not currently saving enough money in order to ensure a comfortable retirement.
