Firm hails facilities management cost reduction

A company based in Gateshead has hailed the success of a facilities management cost reduction programme which has helped it to save thousands of pounds.

Spark Response, a contact centre specialist, has cut costs by £50,000 through a sustained project to increase energy and waste efficiency.

By reducing cutting its energy usage and establishing a large-scale recycling programme, the company saved £26,000 in 2009 and a further £24,000 so far in 2010.

Furthermore, Spark has contributed to helping the environment by cutting carbon emissions by 12 tonnes per month on average.

During the first half of 2010, 71 tonnes of CO2 were saved compared to the same period last year, equating to an 18 per cent reduction year-on-year, said the company.

"So far everyone has embraced and complied with the new system and this lead to us making a significant financial saving, as well as massively reducing our waste output, which is vitally important for our local and wider environment," commented Spark's quality manager Lindsey Pearson.
