Facilities management processes could help firms meet waste deals

An improved facilities management process could help firms meet new "voluntary responsibility deals" on waste reduction.

The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has said that the government wants to work with businesses to help them lower their waste output and increase recycling.

It will look to do this through encouraging companies to sign up to voluntary commitments.

Lord Henley, Defra minister responsible for waste, said: "As householders we all spend a lot of time trying to do the right thing with our waste and recycling, and rightly so."

"But it's equally important that businesses - both large and small - do the same. Twice as much waste comes from commerce and industry as from all households put together, so it's critical that they play their part."

He added that a number of sectors are being considered for the voluntary responsibility deals.

A recent statement from the Federation of Small Businesses urged the government to introduce financial incentives to help more small firms improve their energy and waste efficiency.ADNFCR-2717-ID-800034595-ADNFCR
