Could gloomy outlook inspire facilities management use among hotel and restaurant operators?

August 26th 14:49 Cost Management

A number of businesses operating in the UK's hotel and restaurant sector could be inspired to adopt facilities management cost reduction processes following the publication of a recent report.

According to research firm KPMG's latest Global Business Outlook businesses in the sector have suffered a "sizeable" dip in optimism for the forthcoming year.

The study, which was compiled by Markit, revealed that just 23.9 per cent of hotel and restaurant operators are confident about their future prospects.

Richard Hathaway, head of travel, leisure and tourism at KPMG, said: "Having borne the brunt of the fall-out from recession and as a typical bellwether of consumer spending, the global hotels and restaurants sector remains distinctly cautious.

However, the expert claimed the UK is faring better than some of its international rivals.

"In the UK the situation is more positive in some areas, such as the larger branded restaurants and pubs who have managed to maintain relatively good sales levels compared with last year," he added.
