Will UK firms using facilities management follow the example of Irish businesses?

July 16th 15:17 Cost Management

A number of businesses in the UK that are using facilities management cost reduction processes could be inspired by the actions of their counterparts in Ireland.

Recent research by the Small Firms Association (SFA) has revealed that a large number of businesses in Ireland are to introduce recruitment freezes in a bid to keep costs down.

According to the report, 50 per cent of small businesses in the country are set to implement a recruitment freeze in the next three months.

The study also revealed that three out of five employers cannot see their headcount rising in 2011, saying employee numbers are likely to remain unchanged.

Avine McNally, SFA director, said: "This is a reflection of the series of actions which have been taken by many small firms to try and reduce costs and regain cost competitiveness; however, we cannot become complacent, many jobs are still at risk."

Mr McNally called on the government to make restoring cost competitiveness a priority in order for the jobs market to improve.
