Will the 'additional tax' of red tape inspire firms to use facilities management?

July 19th 16:23 Cost Management

UK businesses could be inspired to adopt facilities management cost reduction techniques following the comments of one industry body.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has described the burden of complying with the UK's "complex" regulatory system as "an additional tax" on small firms.

It follows the publication of a report by the Local Better Regulation Office, which revealed that almost half of businesses do not believe that their local authority has enough knowledge of their sector to regulate them.

The study also showed that one in six organisations describe regulation as their "biggest challenge".

Clive Davenport, the FSB's policy chairman of trade and industry, said: "Small businesses create a huge proportion of the country's wealth yet are most vulnerable to inconsistency in regulation.

"Firms with few employees face considerable pressure on their time and resources, and are in no position to deal with overly complex administration. Red tape is like an additional tax."
