Facilities management 'hot topic' at green convention

July 30th 17:01 Cost Management

A conference discussing the construction and design of environmentally-friendly buildings will also talk about the need for good facilities management.

The third annual Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) Convention & Exhibition will take place in the country in September and is set to see top industry figures debate the finer points of eco-construction, Eprop.co.za reported.

Nicola Douglas, chief executive of GBCSA, explained: "Facilities management and property management are two of the disciplines which will be getting attention at this year's Convention."

He added that green designs need to be followed up with management practices which fit in with the ethos of the project, otherwise resources will be wasted and the design effort will be useless.

Martin Pickard, managing director of the Facilities Management Guru Consultancy, recently told FM World that a new standard to support collaborative business partnering is a good thing for the industry.
