Could businesses turn to facilities management to ease the burden of supplying more jobs?

July 1st 16:21 Cost Management

Business owners operating in the UK's private sector could be encouraged to enlist the help of a facilities management service provider following the publication of a new report.

This could help them ease the cost of providing more jobs after the Office for Budget Responsibility predicted that the private sector will provide more jobs than the public sector will lose in the coming years.

According to the report, as a result of measures introduced to curb public spending and reduce the UK's deficit, the public sector will see 600,000 jobs lost by 2016.

However, during the same period, the OBR predicted that the private sector will increase its employment numbers by more than one million.

However, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has branded OBR's growth estimate "optimistic".

CIPD chief economic adviser Dr John Philpott explained: "A favourable outcome depends on a return to health of the wider economy and increased demand for labour from the private sector.

"The conditions necessary for such a favourable outcome are at present far from self-evident and unlikely to emerge simply as a consequence of swifter and tougher action to reduce the deficit."
