Will death at work figures inspire use of facilities management health and safety process?

June 30th 15:43 Health and Safety

A number of Scottish businesses could be inspired to adopt facilities management health and safety process after recent figures showed the number of work related deaths in the country.

According to a recently-published report by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) despite a reduction compared to recent years, 23 people still died at work between April 2009 and March 2010.

The report showed that the five-year average for Scotland is 31 work-related deaths.

A record low was recorded for Britain as a whole, with 151 deaths reported in 2009-10, down from 178 in the previous year.

Judith Hackitt, the HSE chair said: "It's really very encouraging to see a further reduction in workplace fatalities in the past year.

"Being one of the best health and safety performers in the world means continuing to strive to drive these numbers down further - not getting complacent about what we've collectively achieved and recognising the new challenges as we emerge from the recession."
