usinesses north of the border could be set to make greater use of facilities management software as they work to comply with the Scottish government's tough new wastage rules.

Under the new plans unveiled by the Scottish National Party (SNP), both businesses and homeowners are to be called on to do their bit to cut the amount of waste going to landfill by 70 per cent by 2025.

As well as banning food wastage from Scottish bins, the tough new rules would also require businesses across all sectors to make significant cuts to commercial and construction waste.

While many firms may be required to make some up-front investments, for example through the introduction of facilities management software, according to Scottish business leaders, the 'zero-waste' strategy is expected to pay dividends.

"A long-term strategy which focuses more on business waste is good news," explained the Scottish policy convener for the Federation of Small Businesses Andy Willox.

"Better business waste services will be welcomed by the business community if they’re practical and affordable," he added.

This comes as Marks & Spencer has reported that it has cut the amount of waste it is sending to landfill by a third over the past few years.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19832786-ADNFCR
