Calls for government to 'think small first' could encourage firms using facilities management services

Businesses using facilities management as a way of reducing their operating costs could be among those to be encouraged by a recent call for the government to put small firms first.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has written to chancellor George Osborne ahead of next week's emergency Budget urging him to "think small first" when implementing measures to reduce the country's deficit.

According to the organisation, any measures announced in the Budget need to leave enough room for businesses to "innovate, grow and employ".

The FSB is concerned about the impact a rise in VAT could have on small enterprises and has called on the chancellor to include a "sunset clause" in any VAT increase in a bid help small firms cope with the administrative burden of such changes.

John Walker, FSB national chairman, said: "While the FSB does not want to see taxes increased we understand that reducing the budget deficit is a key priority.

"It is imperative that any changes to capital gains tax or VAT go hand-in-hand with an ambitious plan for helping economic growth through allowing small firms to employ, grow, invest and innovate."ADNFCR-2717-ID-19838338-ADNFCR
