Small businesses in the UK have lost confidence in the future of the UK's economy following the result of the general election, it has been claimed.

According to a recently-published report by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) 54 per cent of smaller firms have put their expansion plans on hold after the election failed to deliver a clear winner.

FSB national chairman John Walker said: "These figures worryingly show that small firms have lost confidence in the economy following the outcome of the election just as the business community was beginning to recover from the downturn.

"At a time of economic uncertainty small businesses really need a government - of whatever make-up - to get on with the job and set out a plan for dealing with the deficit and returning the UK economy to growth."

The news could inspire a number of business owners to seek the assistance of a facilities management service provider to reduce operating costs while the country's future is decided by political meetings.

All three of the main parties have been holding discussions to see which of them are capable of forming a coalition government that is able to provide a secure economic future for the UK.
