Could retail facilities management and a reduction in red tape benefit UK firms?

May 24th 08:05 Cost Management

Businesses using retail facilities management to reduce their operating costs could be among those to be encouraged by recent calls to reduce red tape.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has urged the new coalition government to cut the amount of legislation facing the UK's businesses.

It follows the publication of the BCC's latest Burdens Barometer, which revealed that the cumulative cost of complying with business regulation has seen UK firms spend £88.3 billion since 1998.

This represents an increase of £11 billion in the last 12 months according to the report.

David Frost, BCC director general, said: "The cost of dealing and complying with new laws and regulations over the last 12 years has been far too high.

"During this critical time for the economy, we need businesses to be driving recovery and creating jobs. But, the government must play its part by putting the brakes on the relentless flow of red tape."
