UK businesses using facilities management cost reduction processes could be among those to be encouraged by recent comments regarding business red tape.

The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has said that the only way the new coalition can reduce the amount of businesses legislation in the UK is to realise that "it just isn't needed".

It follows the publication of a recent British Retail Consortium report, which revealed that the cost of complying with red tape has increased to £88.3 billion, £11 billion more than last year.

CRR director Professor Joshua Bamfield said: "When you are small it is vital to direct efforts towards driving a company forward - it is easy to fall into the dangers of all this regulation.

"Most businesses would say to you, let's compile the 300 most inconvenient modes of red tape and get rid of them – then replace them with something simpler."

Chancellor George Osborne has vowed to reduce tax legislation when the emergency Budget is revealed on June 22nd.
