Could facilities management offset the increased cost of temporary staff?

May 4th 15:41 Cost Management

Businesses in the UK that are currently using effective facilities management as a way of reducing costs could be among those interested in recent comments regarding temporary staff.

According to the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), the cost of hiring contractors and agency staff for temporary projects is set to increase after the general election.

Commenting on the election manifestos of the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties, Ann Swain, ASPCo chief executive, told freelancer advice website Shout99: "It is disappointing that none of the three main parties are committed to improving employer flexibility at a time when the number of permanent vacancies has not yet recovered to pre-recession levels."

Ms Swain said the price rises are set to be impacted by the forthcoming integration of EU-inspired Agency Worker Regulations (AWR).

The expert added: "Encouragingly, neither the Conservatives nor the Liberal Democrats explicitly endorse the AWR, suggesting that there may be an opportunity to get the regulations amended after the election prior to their implementation in 2011."
