Could facilities management help firms understand new light regulations?

Businesses operating in the UK could look into effective facilities management should new artificial light regulation mean costly changes at their premises.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a statement reminding business owners of their obligations under the new Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations, which came into effect on April 27th.
Implemented in accordance with a European Union Directive, the regulations are designed to ensure workers are protected from "hazardous sources of artificial light".
The HSE explained that some sources of artificial light, such as UV radiation and lasers, can be harmful to workers' eyes and skin.
"To help those businesses who are not already managing the risks understand what's required and what they need to do, HSE is producing guidance to ensure workers can remain appropriately protected," the organisation said.
"Common sources of light in the workplace such as office lights, photocopiers and computers are not affected by the regulations."
