Could a hung parliament lead to increased use of retail facilities management?

May 5th 16:23 Cost Management

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have identified a hung parliament as the "worst possible" outcome of tomorrow's (May 6th) general election, according to a new report.

Data taken from a YouGov poll for online marketing agency Amaze has revealed that one-third of SMEs feel an inconclusive result at the polls would "reduce or delay" investment into their business.

In turn this could lead to a number of retailers and other business owners looking into effective facilities management as a way of reducing their operating costs.

Amaze's Godfrey Taylor said: "We set out to investigate the attitudes of smaller businesses to the possibility of a hung parliament from a business viewpoint, but found strong support for the Conservatives.

"In addition to this we also carried out detailed online analysis of attitudes towards a hung parliament. The results revealed a lot of online activity around the effect on interest rates and the perceived weakness of a hung parliament."

The study also showed that 36 per cent of SMEs said a hung parliament would be the worst result for the UK's economy as a whole.
