Sandwich chain set for expansion

April 12th 18:31 Cost Management

Pret a Manger, the successful chain of sandwich and coffee stores, is planning to expand this year following a successful start to 2010.

The firm posted a double digit growth on like-for-like sales and recorded a 12 per cent increase in revenues for 2009.

Currently the company operates 232 units, mainly in the UK and US markets, but on the strength of a positive start to the year, the firm has unveiled plans to open 33 new stores this year.

The majority of these would be in the UK and the move follows the opening of 16 stores last year.

An increase in the number of branches Pret operates could leave the firm looking to a provider of effective facilities management to ensure the smooth running of the new units.

As well as opening new outlets in the UK, Clive Schlee, the company's chief executive, said their will now be an increased focus on its international airport and US market ambitions.
