Could effective facilities management leave more money for IT projects?

April 26th 15:56 Cost Management

Small businesses are set to increase the amount of money they spend on IT projects, it has been suggested.

A new SMB/Partner Insight study by software giant Microsoft has revealed that small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) plan to increase their IT budgets by around 16 per cent compared to 2009 levels.

This could inspire a number of firms to look into making cost reductions in other areas through the use of an effective facilities management provider.

According to Birger Steen, vice president of SMB and distribution for the Worldwide Small and Midmarket Solutions & Partners Group at Microsoft, investing in technology can "buoy" smaller businesses and help determine the speed of their recovery.

"The most competitive SMBs are investing in IT that will not only help protect and strengthen their business, but prepare them for success when economic conditions improve," he explained.

According to the report, SMBs in the UK, as well as in the US, Canada, India and Brazil, are looking to invest in software as a service, customer relationship management, IT consolidation and virtualisation.
