Could effective facilities management and a new software system save organisations money?

April 26th 15:58 Cost Management

Organisations using effective facilities management as a way of reducing their operating costs could be among those to be inspired by the action of one UK council.

Northampton Borough Council has announced the implementation of a new data management system which it hopes will remove the need for costly maintenance, support and licences.

The local authority has replaced its old Fujitsu VME Nova system with an integrated DataNovata system from specialist software developer NSC Group.

Gary Steng, the council's IT infrastructure manager, said: "Because of the nature of our business we are obliged by law to retain audit, tax and legal data for many years, in some cases forever.

"Thanks to DataNovata that is not a problem. Also, the DataNovata enquiry applications give a far more intuitive, ergonomic user interface while replicating the original applications enquiries."

NSC Group described the DataNovata system as a "cost-effective" solution, which can be used by any organisation that is looking to develop a relational database.
