Businesses suffering as 'no improvement' in trading

April 12th 18:31 Cost Management

Small to medium-sized businesses in the UK are struggling despite the end of the recession, according to a new report.

The news could inspire a number of firms to look into effective facilities management as a way of reducing their operating costs.

Figures from a recently-published study by price comparison website uSwitch.com have revealed that 63 per cent of the UK's smaller firms are finding trading conditions difficult.

This represents an increase of five percent when compared with the final quarter of 2009.

Jake Ridge, small business expert at uSwitchforbusiness.com, said: "The green shoots of recovery are yet to reach Britain's small businesses and as a result many are finding trading even tougher now than before."

The expert cited energy reduction as a means of saving money, something that an effective facilities management firm could help with.

"Making sure they pay the lowest possible price for the energy they use and using less of it, are two simple steps that will help them reduce costs substantially. It's also a good habit to get into for the challenging times ahead," he added.
