Businesses set for summer boost, says expert

April 15th 15:44 Cost Management

Retailers, including those contemplating effective facilities management as a course of cost management, could be in for a good summer.

This is the view of the Centre for Retail Research, which said the end of the harsh winter weather will have a bigger impact on consumer confidence than the May 6th general election.

According to Joshua Bamfield, the organisation's director, while the election may have an impact on purchases like properties, sunny weather is more likely to have people hitting the shops.

"I think the key impact on retail sales is the fact that the sun is shining, people are feeling a lot more confident, the world didn't end last year and so [people] will carry on shopping," he said.

"There will be a general election effect but that it will actually be quite small compared to the impact of there being no more snow."

Mr Bamfield's comments follow a recent report from the British Retail Consortium which showed that last month's sales increased 4.4 per cent when compared to March 2009.
