UK retail sales continue to grow

March 24th 09:22 Cost Management

Retail sales on the UK's high streets have increased for the second month in a row, new figures have revealed.

A recently-published report from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) revealed that 39 per cent of retailers said sales had improved in early March when compared with last year.

Lower sales were only reported by 26 per cent of respondents, leaving a net balance of +13 per cent.

The report also revealed that retailers expect the climate to continue improving throughout the Easter period.

Andy Clarke, chairman of the CBI Distributive Trades Panel and chief operating officer of Asda, said: "Despite not matching the strength seen in February, it's encouraging that high street sales have continued to grow this month."

However, he added: "The outlook for Easter may still be positive but, with a weak economy and pay freezes for many, consumers are likely to remain cautious for some time."

The comments could lead a number of businesses to seek the services of a facilities management provider in order to help control their costs.
