Olympics present facilities management contract opportunities

Business from the north-east will be able to determine their prospects of being involved in the London 2012 Olympics this week.

This is thanks to the presence of an Olympic Organising Committee representative at the Business Exchange North East event, which will begin at Newcastle Racecourse and Conference Centre on Wednesday (March 3rd), nebusiness.co.uk reports.

Laurie Neville, the Olympic Organising Committee's procurement programme manager, will be joined by the Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) buyer engagement manager Chris Bell at the two day event.

A number of north-east companies are hoping to get involved in London 2012, with services ranging from facilities management to transport and logistics.

Interested companies can log on to competefor.com, one of the main points of reference for Olympic-related contracts.

"There is an increasing number of stakeholders advertising their contracts via the CompeteFor site," Mr Bell explained to the website.

"We expect this to provide a growing amount of opportunities for businesses over the next two years."

The ODA said last week that construction of its International Broadcast Centre is "on track".
