Infosecurity Europe: Businesses are not prepared for security breaches

March 19th 17:25 Cost Management

A number of businesses are not prepared for changes in the law regarding the loss of data, according to one industry body.

An online poll carried out by security specialist Infosecurity Europe revealed that one-third of organisations do not have the correct systems in place to deal with security breaches.

The figures are published ahead of changes in the law that could see firms landed with fines of up to £500,000 as a result of data losses.

Security expert Stewart Room, who is set to deliver a speech at Infosecurity Europe's forthcoming Keynote Theatre, said: "The law is about changing behaviours, so if you adopt an honourable stance from the outset, doing the right thing at the right time, then your legal team are in a very strong position to defend you to the regulator."

The comments could inspire a number of organisations to look into effective facilities management to improve the efficiency and security of their IT systems.
