Greggs, the successful chain of bakeries, is set to press on with expansion plans over the coming years after posting a rise in sales and profits.

Figures recently released by the company revealed that last year, profits increased by eight per cent to £48.8 million.

The data also showed that sales at the firm increased by almost five per cent to £658 million.

Ken McMeikan, Greggs' chief executive, said the results would spur the company on in its current expansion plans.

As well as adding another 50 to 60 stores to its empire this year, the firm intends to add at least 70 more in 2011 and continue to expand thereafter.

"Customers will keep coming back provided you provide great quality, great taste and great value and we've continued to focus on that throughout the recession," he told Sky News.

The planned addition over a large number of stores could leave the company in need of effective facilities management services to ensure the new branches are up to speed as soon as possible.
