Did small businesses benefit from the Budget?

March 25th 15:55 Cost Management

A number of measures introduced by the government in this week's Budget have been described as "small-business-friendly", by one industry body.

The Forum of Private Businesses (FPB) welcomed the government's extension of its Time to Pay tax scheme and the introduction of a new dedicated helpline for businesses still struggling to meet their tax demands.

A new five-day target for smaller firms to receive payment from public bodies was also highlighted by the FPB.

However, the organisation also stated that it is concerned about the lack of long-term strategy provided by the chancellor.

Phil Orford, FPB chief executive, said: "While we're sceptical of the motives behind some of the measures announced in the Budget, coming so soon before a general election, there are some reasons to celebrate.

"We had asked the chancellor to clarify and extend the Time to Pay scheme as it can be a lifeline for many small firms struggling with cash flow difficulties, so its extension for another four or five years will be welcomed."

Another way for firms to improve their cash flow is to adopt the services of a facilities management provider.
