Businesses urged to install ventilation equipment

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is encouraging businesses to invest in local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems in a bid to cut down on illnesses caused by airborne pollutants.
According to the HSE, exposure to dusts, gases and fumes can lead to workers contracting illnesses such as asthma and silicosis.
The advice is being issued as part of a HSE initiative, which has staged a number of interactive road shows to highlight the benefits of fitting LEV systems.
Effective facilities management could also help to minimise the risks, as the systems need to be properly installed and maintained in order to be effective.
Stephanie Beach, the HSE's LEV communications manager, said: "The use of LEV equipment can make a real difference to the health of those who work in industries where airborne contaminants are an issue.
"Events like these inform small businesses of their legal obligations and help them protect their workers from occupational diseases."
