The importance property developers should place on health and safety compliance has been flagged up after one businessman was fined over endangering the lives of project workers.
Hull Magistrates heard how Bradford-based HQ Leisure had endangered the lives of a number of workers after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found numerous safety issues at a development project in Albion Street, Hull.
The company pleaded guilty to several charges including two breaches of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, three breaches of the Work at Height Regulations and one further breach of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act.
After pleading guilty to the charges the firm was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay a further £10,000 in court costs.
HSE Inspector Stephen Hargreaves said: "HQ Leisure blatantly disregarded the importance of a safe working site, leaving their workers on Albion Street at risk of serious injury or even death.
"Property developers must be aware of their duties towards the health and safety of their workers, and HSE will continue to take action where we find significant risks to workers."
