New data highlights need for safety compliance

February 2nd 09:29 Health and Safety

The need to comply with health and safety regulations has been highlighted by a new set of statistics.

Data published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has revealed that 1,117 injuries and one death were caused by "slip, trip and fall" accidents in the East Midlands alone last year.

Samantha Peace, HSE's head of operations for the region, said: "These figures highlight the very real and serious nature of preventable slip, trip and fall incidents in the workplace.

"Slips, trips and falls might sound funny but they shatter the lives of thousands of British workers every year."

According to the HSE report, the accidents, which could easily be avoided with "cost effective solutions", cost the UK economy around £800 million each year.

More than 2,431 East Midlands workers had to take injury-related breaks from work of longer then three days as a result of the incidents, according to the HSE.
