Internet fraudsters are becoming 'more sophisticated'

The importance of effective facilities management could be set to increase as phishing scams are becoming "more sophisticated".

Security consultant 7Safe has warned that phishing scams, which are designed to obtain personal information, have evolved from the error-filled attempts of recent years.

Alan Phillips, the firm's chief executive, said phishing e-mails have become "more and more convincing" as spelling and grammar mistakes have become less frequent.

Mr Phillips' comment follows news from a Network Box report, which revealed that phishing scams accounted for 57 per cent of all e-mail-sent malware over the Christmas period.

The expert warned that sophisticated fraudsters can access bank account details from anywhere in the world.

"If these attacks did not have a worthwhile success rate, presumably they would not be as popular as these statistics reveal," he said.

"For a criminal to be able to gain access to bank accounts from any location in the world via an internet connection is a particularly attractive option."
