HSE release further slip statistics

In a bid to further its campaign for businesses to take preventative measures surrounding slips and falls, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published more data on injuries caused by the accidents.
According to HSE statistics, 453 major injuries were caused by "slip, trip and fall" incidents last year in Kent.
The number rises to more than 1,200 when all injuries are accounted for and 779 incidents caused workers to miss more than three days of work.
HSE has issued the statistics as part of a campaign, entitled Shattered Lives, which is to offer advice on how to reduce the number of "preventable" incidents.
The campaign has now been welcomed by the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, said: "Every one of the 40 deaths caused by slips, trips and falls were preventable.
"The key is proper risk assessment and control measures as highlighted by the HSE. Unions will warmly welcome this practical hard-hitting campaign and will be raising the issue with employers wherever and whenever they can."
