Unnecessary fines

January 27th 17:37 Health and Safety

I have been reading in the news today about fines being made to building contracting firms for poor Health and Safety. Whilst we all like to poke fun at H&S issues, clearly there is a good reason for having the monitoring and regulations around H&S, well most of the time...

I am surprised though, that when there is a miriad of management tools out there to help people from large co's to small co's that companies do fall foul of the law on a fairly regular basis. Even basic issues like training for working at a height for site foremen becomes a struggle for some firms, despite the largest cause of injury on work sites being falls from height.

I may not know the answer, but I am certain that the money invested in H&S must surely be outweighed by the benefits gained from not having claims made against the company for compensation, or even just mitigating the cost of unproductive employees having time off sick.

It seems to me there must be a happy medium!

Your comments as always will be very welcome.
