Tips issued to ensure energy bills are 'slashed'

Businesses in the UK could be among those to benefit from new energy guidance from moneysupermarket.com.

The price comparison website has told fuel customers that electrical appliances such as computers and laptops still use power when they are being kept on standby.

For example, putting a computer on "sleep" mode instead of turning it off will still mean the machine is using 75 per cent of its energy, according to the site.

The firm also advised firms that by reducing their thermostats by just one degree, c could result in an annual saving of ten per cent.

Following the advice may enable some firms to reduce the amount of money they spend on spend on energy consumption.

This could free up funds to make changes to their facilities management and further reduce their running costs.

Other tips included ensuring curtains and blinds are drawn to keep heat inside and switching to low energy light bulbs.
