New legislation to bring down cost of battery disposal for businesses?

January 4th 17:35 Cost Management

Businesses using large quantities of industrial batteries may find their facilities management made easier by the introduction of new legislation.

From January 1st, firms have been able to request for the producers of such power cells to collect, treat and recycle the items free-of-charge.

Minister for business and regulatory reform Ian Lucas explained that the move will help firms reduce the amount they are forced to spend recycling batteries.

"Business users of industrial batteries … will no longer be faced with the costs that may be incurred through recycling scrap batteries," he explained, adding that the new rules are designed to "complement" the "excellent" arrangements that are already in place for recycling industrial batteries.

As part of the changes, companies that produce batteries will have to register with the government and file reports on waste items that are collected and sent to be recycled.

Last month, Chris Ingle of market intelligence provider IDC noted that many companies lack awareness about the range of technologies they can use to bring down their carbon output.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19538607-ADNFCR
