HSE to offer advice to holiday camp operators

January 19th 11:17 Health and Safety

British holiday camp operators are to receive expert guidance on safety from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ahead of the busy summer periods.

In collaboration with South West Tourism, the HSE will hold a number of "awareness events" in March across the popular destinations of Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset.

The events could highlight the necessity of effective facilities management as they will be aimed at raising awareness of the "key health and safety issues" affecting the industry.

Lectures at the event will cover topics such as Legionnaires disease, fire regulations, gas and electrical safety and asbestos.

Max Walker, HSE head of operations for the south-west, said: "Anyone working in this industry needs to keep health and safety issues at the forefront of their mind - especially when the summer season is at its peak.

"Accidents are bad news for individuals, businesses and reputations. No one can afford - either in monetary terms or simple human terms - to treat safety lightly."
